A St Peter care home had to be evacuated yesterday evening after a bin fire spread to the window frames and guttering.
Neighbours noticed the fire and called the fire service who tackled the blaze with water jets and a thermal imaging camera, to check that it hadn't spread further.
One staff member was given oxygen as a precaution after inhaling smoke whilst using a fire extinguisher to tackle the blaze.
The fire service have praised the actions of staff who evacuated the building, quickly moving residents to a safe place.
