BMW driver was more than twice alcohol limit

A motorist has been sentenced to community service after being caught driving his BMW at more than twice the legal alcohol limit.

Jose Manuel Correia Andrade was sentenced in the Magistrate's Court this week.

The court heard that, on the evening of 7 July, police received a report of suspected drink-driving from a member of the public.

Officers stopped the 43-year-old on La Grande Route de Rozel and found that he had 88 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal maximum is 35 micrograms.

“This was a very high level of alcohol in the breath," Relief Magistrate David Le Cornu observed.

However, in considering sentence, he noted that Andrade had no previous convictions.

The Relief Magistrate also pointed to the fact that he had pleaded guilty early on.

He subsequently handed down a community service order of 100 hours.
