A £50,000 States grant has helped Jersey’s Branchage Film Festival return this summer after a two year break with new venues, film premieres and some famous faces.

agnés b and the Radiophonic Workshop will be taking part in the festival which runs from Wednesday 24 to Sunday 28 September, and which is moving out of town. St Aubin’s Village will host a number of screenings and live soundtrack events and there will be entertainment in a number of historic, eccentric and picturesque locations from the Lavender Farm to the Wetland Centre at St Ouen’s Pond.

Festival Manager Nina Hervé said: “We wanted to reflect the multicultural nature and traditions of the island, a facet of the place that can be overlooked, and so we chose St Aubin’s, the
traditional port and hub of old Jersey, not to mention one of the island’s most picturesque spots with a real community feel, and curators that we hope will bring that blend of influences and cultural energy to the festival.

“We feel Branchage is essential for the cultural life of Jersey, and we hope its return will be as exciting for islanders as it has been for us.”

Branchage Festival was founded in 2008 by Xanthe Hamilton and takes its name from Jersey’s ancient hedge-trimming tradition. The new team wanted to bring it back with fresh ideas which they've been able to help fund through the grant from the Tourism Development Fund.

Iconic French fashion designer agnés b will be looking after a French and foreign film strand. She has a passion for both fashion and cinema, having dressed the stars in Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction.

BBC Radiographic Workshop, who have created some of the most memorable soundtracks of all time including the Doctor Who theme tune, are working with Branchage on a daring, specially-commissioned audiovisual show.

Branchage organiser Chris Bell said: “We’re really excited to finally be bringing Branchage back for the first time since 2011, and really excited to be making our first announcements. In our guest curators agnés b and the Radiophonic Workshop, we have two truly iconic names partaking in the festival and we have some incredible events lined up in addition to the ones already announced.

With the success of Branchages gone by, we have a lot to live up to but I’m sure it’ll be worth the long wait!

Festival passes will go on sale next Friday 23 May and you can get all the Branchage news at www.branchagefestival.com
