Four people are in hospital and several homes have been evacuated after a reported explosion at a Mont Pinel home.
All emergency services were sent to the area shortly before 23:00 last night, and remain on the scene this morning.
Police officers said in a statement that the cause remains unknown and investigations are ongoing.
A number of Island Energy, JEC and other utility vehicles were also in the area this morning.
Drills and excavation equipment were being used on the road.

Police officers said in a statement that the four residents in the affected property had been taken to hospital "for medical attention", while "several others were evacuated from their homes as a precautionary measure".
Access to Mont Pinel between Duoro Terrace and the Merton Hotel is closed, but Mont Millais is open.
Acrewood Day Nursery, which sits behind Mont Pinel on Belvedere Hill, was unable to open this morning.
Several islanders living nearby reported waking up to the sound of dozens of emergency services vehicles.
One person living in the area reported debris having smashed the windscreen of a van.
An islander living nearby in the Mont Millais area told Express the sirens "didn't seem to stop coming" for about 30 minutes.
