Over 200 darts players from across the UK and Channel Islands visited Jersey last weekend for the Festival of Darts.
This annual tournament is fast becoming a key event on the British darts circuit, with prize money topping £20,000.
The Darts Corner event started in Jersey in the 1980s but was resurrected in 2012 after a 15-year gap. Tournaments take place at The Royal Hotel in St Helier.
As well as ladies’ and men’s events, and a knock out, there is a mixed doubles game, and, for those who haven’t already won a prize, the ‘No Hopers and Cabbages’ challenge.
Organiser Paul James said: “The event is getting bigger each year. We are at maximum capacity for The Royal Hotel now so will have to cap entries next year.
“We had a really good crowd with some excellent players from all over the UK including teams from Aberdeen, Northern Ireland, Wales, Gloucester, and the City of London.
“At least 140 of the players are coming in from the UK, along with about 30 from Guernsey.”
Since the event started in the 1980s, it has drawn big names from the world of darts, including Phil Taylor, John Lowe, Jocky Wilson, Bob Anderson, Keith Deller, Eric Bristow.
This year, Lisa Ashton from Lancashire won the Ladies’ Jersey Classic and the Jersey Open. Jamie Hughes from the West Midlands took the Men’s Jersey Open, while Scott Michell from Dorset won the Men’s Jersey Classic.
England International Garry Thompson from Yorkshire scooped the £1,500 ‘No Hopers and Cabbages’ prize after losing his first draw.
