Bus driver "shaken" after being showered with hot coffee

A passenger was so angry to not be allowed to take his coffee on board a bus that he showered the driver with the boiling beverage, Police have said in an appeal for more information.

According to members of the Force, the driver was left so "shaken" that he was unable to drive for the rest of the day and the bus had to be taken off the road.

Police said that the incident, which occurred on Sunday 7 April around 13:15 at the bus stop opposite St. Aubin's Parish Hall, is being treated as an assault.

They described the assailant as being: "In his 40s, of medium build, 5’7 (1.70m) tall, with tanned skin, and spoke with possibly a Welsh or Liverpudlian accent."

They added: "He was wearing a light grey jacket, dark grey baseball cap and dark cargo trousers. He also had a dark coloured rucksack on his bag and was carrying another bag in his hand.”

Shortly before the attack, they said the man walked out of Morrisons carrying a takeaway coffee before walking to a bus stop on the same side of the road.

It was apparently when the bus driver warned him that he was not allowed to bring hot drinks on the bus that the man then threw his drink all over him and the dashboard of the bus. Police said the driver was not injured, but was "shaken".
