Busy day for Green Watch firefighters

A busy shift for Green Watch saw them put out a fire in a hotel, save dogs stranded by the tide and rescue someone who was hurt mountain biking on the north coast.

The first call that the team from the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service had to deal with was to launch the inshore rescue boat to save two dogs who had been stranded by the tide on Green Island.

They also had to deploy a specially-trained rope rescue team to rescue someone who had been injured while mountain-biking on the cliff paths near Les Platons.

The final call was at 3.45 pm, when the team were called to a large hotel in town.

Staff alerted by the automatic smoke alarm system called 999, and when they arrived, the crews found smoke coming out of all the doors to the hotel basement. They ordered the premises to be evacuated, while two firefighters with breathing apparatus tackled the blaze with a high pressure hosereel, before clearing the smoke with a mechanical fan.
