Female creatives encouraged to try screenwriting

Sunday 29 March 2020

The local screenwriter behind the acclaimed 'Another Mother's Son' is urging women to get involved in a local competition aiming to uncover the film and TV talent of tomorrow.

Jenny Lecoat is calling for submissions for her short screenwriting competition which will form part of the second 13th Parish Festival of Film and Music.

The 2020 script competition is only open to female writers, who are vastly unrepresented in the film industry.

Entrants must have a Channel Island connection, or their work must explore themes relating to the islands through location, characters, history or other association.

Jenny Lecoat, renowned Jersey writer and judge of the competition, says: “This is an exciting opportunity for women with a story to tell and we are open to all levels of writing experience.

“We’re looking for innovative or untold stories, which would create a film between five and 15 minutes long. This year we hope to have live readings from the shortlisted scripts during the festival.”

Last year, the competition received 16 submissions, with the overall winner from Guernsey and two runners up from Jersey and the UK.
