Can you get the wheels in motion for project to re-cycle more bikes?

A local charity is asking islanders to get their heads in gear and think about donating spare bicycle parts to help bring battered cycles back to life.

Social enterprise Acorn, which helps islanders with learning disabilities and long-term health conditions into employment is on the hunt for spare parts and gears and has also put together an Amazon Wishlist to kickstart its "wheelie good project".

The items on the list are varied, ranging from goods around £10 or less ranging from tape, to white spirit, adhesive spray and chic pastel-coloured paints to a bicycle wheel truing stand (£57) and a 23-piece bike tool kit (£107).

Thanking islanders in advance for their support, a 'spokes-person' for the charity said: "The project will provide work and training opportunities to people who have a disability, be good for the environment, make bikes more affordable to people on lower incomes, and generate further income for our social enterprise."
