Can you help the Bulls mascot score a new name?

Sunday 23 June 2019

What do you call a football-supporting Jersey bull? That's not a joke - it's a challenge to local primary school children to help the island's newest squad name its mascot ahead of its first league game.

Jersey Bulls' competition invites all participating pupils to ‘Name the Bull’ and to make their suggestions before 17 July.

The Mascot’s winning name will be announced at the Club’s first league game against Ash United, which will take place at Springfield Stadium on 3 August.

Adam Budworth, Managing Director of Grant Thornton, sponsors of the Mascot, commented: “The Jersey Bulls is a really exciting prospect, not least for football loving fans, but for the Island as a whole. Being part of their story from the very beginning means a lot to us in helping them to boost the Island’s profile.

"One such way we can help them to achieve this is by funding their Mascot for the next three years. Allowing Jersey’s future generation to‘Name the Bull’ should, we hope, get Jersey behind the Club and encourage as many people, youngand old to become fans.”

“We really look forward to receiving entries from the various participating schools”, aded Ian Horswell, Director and Commercial Manager of Jersey Bulls. “No doubt, there will be lots of weird and wonderful ideas for the Bull’s name, so shortlisting the entries will be a lot of fun! We’re immensely grateful to the support of local companies like Grant Thornton, to get behind the Club by sponsoring us in various ways.”

The naming competition launched just a few days after the first players signed with the club, which itself launched in September last year by former Muratti player and Les Quennevais PE teacher Russell Le Feuvre, in a bid to nurture the skills of local elite players while developing young talent.

After signing a three-year deal to use Springfield Stadium, the Bulls saw their bid to join the Combined Counties League unanimously approved by its management committee.

St. Peter's FC coach, Gary Freeman, was appointed in January to lead the club in their first season in the English Football League System.

In March, the club scored a three-year sponsorship deal with sportswear brand Kappa - representing a £5,000 boost each season.
