Car crash leaves teenager seriously injured

Friday 29 March 2019

Emergency services were called out to three separate car crashes yesterday, including one where a “heavily pregnant lady” had to free herself from an overturned vehicle and one which left a teenager seriously injured.

Both the Police and the Fire Service responded to three separate road incidents yesterday involving two flipped cars and a crash that has left a 16-year-old moped driver with a “serious injury.”

Police are appealing for information about the first crash of the day involving a van driver and the 16-year-old boy which took place around 07:40 opposite West Park Apartments.

A 53-year-old male driving a white van and the boy on his moped crashed on the roundabout, resulting in the teen “sustaining a serious injury that required hospital treatment.”

The Police say they would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this or has any information on the incident.

Roughly an hour later, the Fire Service and Police were called after a car had overturned in St. Brelade with concerns that a female driver was trapped inside.

However, it was subsequently ascertained that “the heavily pregnant lady had managed to free herself from the vehicle before the arrival of the emergency services."

The crews worked together to make the scene safe whilst the mother-to-be was treated by paramedics – her injuries are not known.

Later in the day, just after noon, multiple calls came in reporting another overturned car on Mont Felard which “was in a precarious position with a single occupant trapped inside.”

The Fire Service worked with the Coastguard and the RNLI to ensure that the car didn’t continue to roll over and they managed to free the driver using a special tool. They then assisted the Police and Ambulance Service to make the scene safe and the driver was treated on scene “as a precautionary measure".

Anyone who has information about the first crash in West Park can contact the Police on 01534 612612 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or on their website.
