Disability charity hosts festive carol service

Saturday 07 December 2019

Residents and service users of disability charity Les Amis are looking to raise the roof of the Town Church with festive songs today.

The charity's annual Christmas Carol Service will start at 15:00, with refreshments being served afterwards in the Church Hall.

The choir has been rehearsing weekly since mid-October, and aims to fill the church with festive cheer and put a smile on attendees' faces.

They will be performing for the charity’s patrons, Lieutenant-Governor Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton and Lady Dalton in a service led by The Very Reverend Mike Keirle, Dean of Jersey, with a retiring collection for Les Amis.

“Rehearsing with our residents has been a real joy, we all have lots of fun learning the songs, but I am also very proud of their commitment to rehearsals and the effort they put in each week.," Jason Loveless, Head of Support Services and Choir Coordinator, said. "We’d love to celebrate the choirs’ achievements with a full Church.”

The Les Amis Carol Service has become an annual event for the charity. The team are passionate about keeping this tradition alive, as it not only marks the start of Christmas festivities but also offers many benefits to the residents.

Singing is known to release lots of endorphins, improving wellbeing. Studies also suggest it can help reduce chronic pain.

Shaun Findlay, Managing Director of Les Amis, thanked Mr Loveless for organising and and rehearsing with the choir for the last five years.

"Without his commitment our residents wouldn’t get this wonderful opportunity," he added. "I also challenge anyone who goes to our carol service to leave without a smile on their face.”
