Pre-poll voting has begun in town, and tomorrow you can go to Communicare to cast an early vote in the 2014 election.
Election day is on 15th October, and will see eight Senatorial seats, 23 Deputy’s seats and a Constable’s post decided, with the winning candidates serving a three-and-a-half year term in the £46,600-per-year job of being States Members.
In an effort to improve Jersey’s poor voter turnout, the States have set up pre-polling stations to make it easier to cast your vote.
The main station in town is at St Paul’s Centre, and will be open every weekday from 8 am to 6 pm until the Friday before election day – anyone on the electoral roll in any parish can cast an early vote there, but if you’re going, you need to make sure that you take some photo ID.
A one-off pre-polling station will also be at Communicare in St Brelade on Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm, with another one-off pre-polling station will be open at Trinity Youth Centre next Saturday (the 11th October) from 9 am to 2 pm.
The Chamber of Commerce is getting behind the idea by calling on bosses to give staff the time to go and cast their votes during the work day.
So far, JT, Romerils, Grant Thornton, Gold Money, Calligo, aMaizin! Adventure Park and KPMG have all signed up.
