Love your castle? Then get running!

Islanders are being urged to get on their running shoes to help preserve one of Jersey's most iconic landmarks.

Now in its third year, the Hawksford Castle Chase involves teams of two racing across the beach at low tide from West Park to the Parade Ground on Elizabeth Castle and back, with each team member covering a distance of two miles.

The annual event raises money for Jersey Heritage’s ‘Love Your Castle’ restoration project, which funds continuous work to conserve and protect Elizabeth Castle.

The Hawksford Castle Chase 2019 will take place on Thursday, 26 September between 12:00 and 13:15.

Last year, over 160 runners took part, raising around £3,000 for the project.

Jon Carter, Jersey Heritage’s Chief Executive, said: “Elizabeth Castle has a special place in Jersey’s history and this event helps us to raise awareness of its historical and environmental value, and invest in its long-term conservation.”

He added: “As little as £3 enables us to buy a heritage roof tile, so every penny counts towards safeguarding the Castle for future generations.”

The closing date for entries to this year’s Hawksford Castle Chase is Tuesday, 24 September 2019.
