Channel Highlander to star in reboot of 80s classic

Jersey actor Henry Cavill is to star in a reboot of Highlander, the 1986 fantasy adventure film famed for its quotable script, fighting scenes and belting soundtrack.

The Superman star confirmed through social media that he was involved in the project, although his exact role is yet to be confirmed.

In a post on Instagram, he said: “Very exciting news today! I've been a fan of Highlander since I was a lad. From the movies in all of their 80s, Queen slathered glory to the TV show with an actor who looked remarkably like one of my brothers.

"Being not shy with swords, and having a director as talented as Chad Stahelski at the helm, this is an opportunity like no other. Deep diving into franchise storytelling with all the tools at our disposal, is going to make this an adventure I (and hopefully all of you) shall never forget.”

The 38-year-old, who grew up in Vallée des Vaux and La Moye, is expected to pay one of two leads in the film.

The original starred French actor Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, a Scottish warrior born in the 16th century who discovers he is immortal.

The late Sean Connery, starring as another immortal called Ramirez, then finds MacLeod and teaches him the ways of their kind, including learning about the Quickening, an energy that immortals possess which means they live forever, unless they are beheaded by another like them.

Despite initially flopping at the box office, the original film became a cult classic which spawned sequels, TV series, novels, comics and video games.

Mr Cavill is currently shooting the second season of The Witcher for Netflix and has recently signed up to play Sherlock Holmes for the second time in Enola Holmes 2, which focuses on the exploits of the famous detective’s little sister.
