For the last four months, hundreds of Channel Islanders have been putting the new 4G mobile networks to the test and JT claims the results show that its network delivers the fastest average mobile broadband speeds across the Islands.
In Jersey, 580 validated speed tests were carried out from 16 May to 26 June using a speed-test app and JT’s 4G network delivered an average speed of 52.66Mbps and superfast top speeds of more than 200Mps
This average speed was then compared against the other Jersey network speeds logged during the testing period, suggesting that JT’s average network speed is the fastest in Jersey.
The results of the 4G Challenge in Jersey matched the results in Guernsey where 446 tests conducted by islanders during March and April showed that JT delivered the fastest average speed (52.53 Mbps).
Barna Kutvolgyi, JT’s Managing Director of Global Consumer, said: “Having recently invested more than £12m in a completely new 4G network for the Channel Islands, we’re very pleased to have seen these results in both Guernsey and Jersey and would like to thank everyone who got involved.
"These are independent tests and not only show that JT’s mobile network is faster than the other local operators, but that it also far exceeds the average speeds seen in the UK, on any of the major network providers, by at least 59% (source: www.speedtest.net/awards/gb). Importantly, what this means for customers is the ability to access superfast mobile data all over the Island, like never before.
“Thanks to Islanders, the data we have gathered not only reinforces what we hoped to see having made this investment, but has also given us valuable data in order to keep on optimising and developing our network to make it the best it can possibly be for our customers.
“Increasingly our customers are doing more and more on the go and are wanting to download pictures and videos in an instant, stream music seamlessly and stay connected wherever they are. Having tested our network, we hope more islanders will now choose Jersey’s only locally owned provider, on the Channel Islands’ fastest network. We’d like to thank everyone who put us to the test.”
The JT 4G Challenge ran in Jersey during May and June 2016. Islanders registered speeds on JT, Sure and Airtel’s networks using an independent speed test app. The full results are available to view online here.
