Punks with purpose raise £1,000 for storm victims with concert

Monday 20 November 2023

A local pop-punk band has raised more than £1,000 to help the victims of Storm Ciarán rebuild – by rocking out so hard in a fundraising gig that a chandelier felt like it was "about to fall off the ceiling".

Held at the Blue Note Bar on Friday, 88 Bunkface's gig was inspired by a viral video of their friend's window being shattered by severe winds while she slept next to her baby.

Guitarist and vocalist Adam True told Express the reception was "incredible”.

Pictured: The inspiration host the gig was when the band saw their friend Jess O'Reilly's window being shattered by gusts in a video that hit national headlines.

“As per usual with these things, especially on a Friday, it started off moderately busy and became absolutely packed out as the night went on” he added.

The band sold almost 200 raffle tickets and collected £840 in total through on-the-door donations.

Combined with the band's own contribution, the amount reached a substantial £1,000.

During the gig, 88 Bunkface welcomed others to join them on stage, and thanked everyone who participated: “James, Theo, Sarah, Alex, Rushton, Jennie, Charlotte – they know who they are!”

The band also thanked Blue Note staff for “never complaining when the downstairs chandelier feels like its about to fall off the ceiling”.

The funds raised will be directed to the Bailiff's Appeal, set by Sir Timothy Le Cocq, to assist individuals and families facing displacement and hardship due to Storm Ciarán.
