Investors are being warned to watch out for a dodgy Chinese company touting for business in the Island.
The Jersey Financial Services Commission says China Merchants International Corporation has been making unsolicited calls to Jersey residents trying to offer them investment advice.
The financial regulator says that CMIC has never been registered, nor applied for registration, under the Financial Services Law and that any financial service business, as defined in Article 2 of the Financial Services Law and carried out by CMIC since 1 July 1999, is in breach of Article 7 of the Financial Services Law.
They also say that CMIC and its website www.chinamint.cn.com show warning signs of being set up for a fraudulent purpose.
They want anyone who is contacted by the company to get in touch with them and you can see all the businesses who are regulated in Jersey here.
