There were big celebrations in the Royal Square when one Jersey resident became a British citizen on Friday.
A team from Jersey Cheshire Home joined Oscar Isik as he left court looking forward to the new opportunities being a British citizen will bring him.
The 43-year-old who’s originally from Turkey has been living at the Home for the last fifteen years after a head injury left him with very limited movement from the waist down.
But Oscar doesn’t let his disability get in his way – he’s now planning to find a part-time job to help pay for a new set of wheels so that he can get around more easily.
He said: “What can I say, it’s great. I want to buy a new chair as I can do more with a new chair and it will give me more opportunities.”
Oscar’s friends and staff from Jersey Cheshire Home dressed up in red, white and blue for the ceremony and waved both the Jersey and British flags but the celebrations didn’t stop there – there was a party for him back at his home.
It was a big weekend for Oscar - he took part in the Collas Crill 'Around the Island' charity walk on Saturday, putting in a couple of miles on a specially adapted push bike.
