Co-op asks charities “can we help?”

Tuesday 03 January 2017

The Co-op wants to hear from any charities and community groups that could benefit from a little extra cash.

Under its Helping Hands fund, which was set up in 1995, the company has donated more than £250,000 to worthwhile causes in the Islands.

Last year, 121 organisations applied to the fund and the society was able to give £18,000 to more than 30 charities, churches and organisations across the Channel Islands.

The Co-op’s membership and community manager, Katey White says: “We would like to invite charities and local community groups to submit their applications for the 2017 Helping Hands fund before the deadline of Sunday 5 February… It is important to recognise that a lot of the smaller charities and causes can get overlooked. As a community retailer, we make the Helping Hands fund as accessible as possible to all charities and especially those where a few hundred pounds can make all the difference to the work they are doing in our Islands.”

Anyone interested can apply online hereor download the form and send it by post to Tanya Dorrity, Community Officer, Co-operative House, 57 Don Street, St. Helier, Jersey JE2 4TR.
