A 19-year-old found with up to £12,000 of cannabis and a variety of weapons has been ordered to complete 180 hours of community service and a year of probation by the Royal Court.

Jamie Steven Lagadu was sentenced on Friday, having admitted to possessing 572g of cannabis resin with the intent to supply it commercially.

Police searched Lagadu’s empty family home on 7 February this year and found the drugs, with a street value of between £9,000 and £12,000, wrapped in heat-sealed bags in the loft.

They also found almost £8,800 cash in two jars and a shoebox, dealers’ equipment and a variety of weapons, including a brass knuckle duster, a BB gun, a butterfly knife and nunchucks.

They returned later that day and waited. When Lagadu came back to the house via the back door, officers noticed that he had muddy hands.

He was arrested and after searching the garden, an officer found Lagadu’s mobile phone buried under some loose soil.

Later analysed, the phone was found to contain dealing-related messages - some of which indicated that Lagadu was owed money by people, and dealer lists.

The phone included a photograph of herbal cannabis on a set of scales showing a weight of 14 grams with the caption “pay for 13”.

On 28 September 2019, there was also a conversation between Lagadu and another phone in which he asked if the recipient would “do a box for 5.5k”, a “box” being commonly used to refer to a kilogram of cannabis

His bank account was also reviewed, which showed it increasing by £17,000 through 2019 despite Lagadu being unemployed for part of the year.

Commissioner Sir William Bailhache presided over the Court hearing, sitting with Jurats Thomas and Austin-Vautier.
