A 32-year-old man caught who bought Class A drugs in “a momentary lapse of judgement” has been sentenced to 120 hours of community service.
The Magistrate's Court heard that Connor Connolly was arrested in Green Street on the evening of 9 July 2023 after members of the public told the police of a drug deal taking place.
St Helier Centenier Paul Huelin, prosecuting, said Connolly was found with seven tablets of ecstasy.
He gave “no comment” answers when questioned but later pleaded guilty to possession.
The court also heard that Connolly had previous convictions for the same offence.
Advocate Lucy Marks, defending, said Connolly had been offered the drugs in a pub and bought them in “a momentary lapse of judgement”.
She said: “It was a foolish decision, made while he was intoxicated.”
The defence advocate added that he had not used Class A drugs for six years and said that Connolly was glad he had been arrested before he could take them.
She asked the court to consider community service as an alternative to prison so that Connolly could go on working and supporting his son.
Assistant Magistrate Adam Clarke agreed, saying: “It does appear that this was a one-off.”
Connolly was sentenced to 120 hours of community service and received a six-month probation order.
