Competition invites ‘off the wall’ photography

Monday 06 April 2020

Jersey Arts Centre is hosting an ‘off the wall’ photography competition, inviting entries in response to a different theme each week of the island-wide lockdown with the promise of an exhibition next year.

Having temporarily closed the theatre and suspended its programme, the Arts Centre photography competition is one of the ways of keeping their cultural programme running amidst the current health crisis.

The community photography project ‘Off the Wall’ invites entries from snappers across the island who can submit their pics with the hopes of being featured on the Arts Centre social media pages and a selection will be exhibited later in the year.

‘Off the Wall’ will run for 12 weeks where snappers can send in their photographic responses to a weekly brief. Islanders are being encouraged to take a camera or a smartphone on their next walk, to shoot some still-life and share the images that make them “feel positive and inspired.”

The Arts Centre is posting their favourites on their social media channels throughout the week.

According to the brief, the theatre and community space “want to capture your creativity and ingenuity during these extraordinary times and we hope that by sharing your photographs you will help us inspire others.”

Following the 12 weeks, the Centre will be selecting their favourites to be featured in an exhibition next year.

So far, photographers have been sending in pictures in-keeping with the theme ‘nature’ and here are some of the Arts Centre’s top picks...
