Powerboat racing is coming back to Jersey next year for the first time in 20 years.
Former World Champion Roy Smith – now the Chairman of the Jersey Powerboat Club – says that the Jersey Offshore Powerboat Festival will take place over two days in August next year, with several events planned.
The main event will be an offshore circuit – and besides local entrants, the club is also expecting competitors from the UK and Europe.
He said: “I am really excited to have powerboating back in Jersey waters once again.
“After being the club's chairman for a number of years it's fantastic to see young people coming through and giving the club and racing the fresh start that it needs.”
The focus of the events on 6 and 7 August will be on St Aubin’s Bay.
In the past, both Jersey and Guernsey played host to competitive powerboat racing – Mr Smith is a former national champion who won the world championship title in Guernsey in 2008.
Another organiser, Nicolle Maltwood, said that they were already planning the events and looking for volunteers and sponsors.
She said: “We have lots of areas where we are looking to find individuals who have free time and an open mindset.”
