Corporate teams compete for local charities

It has been announced that ‘Prosperity Day’ raised nearly £20,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust and Durrell.

The event featured 15 corporate teams who unleashed pedal-mania in Broad Street.

Created by IT firm Prosperity 24.7, the event brought together 15 local businesses who went ‘head to head to head’ in a three-way virtual race on state-of-the-art turbo trainers.

This year’s line-up included:

  • JTC V Jersey Post V LGL Trustees,
  • CPA V JT V Sure,
  • Deloitte V Grant Thornton V PWC,
  • Ogier V KPMG V Bedell Christin,
  • BDO V Andium Homes V Camerons.

Each turbo trainer was connected to its own computer screen, transporting the cyclist onto a virtual stage of an international road race. For the ultimate race, the three top firms entered their best cyclist to pedal for victory. A strong effort from JT pushed them into first position, with Sure and Camerons coming in second and third place.

But it wasn’t just about the need for speed. Points awarded throughout the races only contributed to half of the score collected by the teams, with the remaining points being determined by their fundraising. The overall winners were announced at the Prosperity Day awards evening, held at the Jersey Museum. Including fundraising efforts, Camerons climbed to first place, with Sure following in second place and JT in third place.

Speaking about the success of the event, Chris Clark, CEO of Prosperity 24.7, said: “Thank you to everyone who came along to Prosperity Day 2017 and showed their support. The sun was shining and everyone enjoyed a great day of rivalry, sportsmanship, competition and, most importantly, fundraising.

"So far we have managed to raise £18,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust Jersey Appeal and Durrell Wildlife. The work of Teenage Cancer Trust is hugely important to us, the Jersey Appeal has spent many years working to ensure the best cancer support and care for young people, whenever and wherever they need. We hope that funds raised during Prosperity Day will contribute towards their current education and awareness programme for Jersey schools.

"Everyone has heard of the fantastic work that Durrell deliver locally and Internationally. They have trained conservationists, restored species to viable populations, and changed the role of zoos – from 'attraction' to 'ark' for threatened creatures. This year they have welcomed Dr Lesley Dickie as their new Chief Executive Officer and we really want to support all the great work they do around the world.

"We need to say a huge thank you to Big Maggy’s for the bikes and the BKOOL devices, JT for the WiFi in town, Barannes for the refreshing post-race health drinks, Ports of Jersey for the security barriers, La Petit Baguette for power, all of our colleagues for their support throughout the day and our clients who participated and raised so much money for the charities!”
