New cash machine set to come into use at airport

Tuesday 20 June 2023

A new cash machine is set to be available to departing passengers at Jersey Airport by the end of this week, it has been confirmed.

There has been no cash machine at the airport since 12 May as a result of construction work to install new security technology.

Ports of Jersey originally predicted that machines would be relocated by early June, and this week it was confirmed that this part of the programme was nearly complete.

A spokesperson said: "The cash machines in departures have been relocated as part of the construction work to install new security technology at the airport.

"An engineer is due to arrive later this week to commission a new machine which has been installed at the entrance to the departure gates - it should be in service by the end of the week, and the other ATM will be installed shortly."

New security facilities will feature advanced imaging systems to provide clearer images of cabin baggage. Ports of Jersey says this will improve security and ease the security process for passengers, eventually allowing liquids and laptops to be scanned while remaining in passengers’ hand luggage.

Existing rules for liquids and electronics will remain in place until the new equipment has been tested and all security staff have been trained to use it, with a deadline of June 2024 for all UK airports, as well as those in the Channel Islands, to have the equipment in place.

The Airport Information Desk has now moved to its new location next to the café in the check-in area of Departures. Jersey Post and foreign currency services have moved with the information desk.

Car hire desks are now based in the arrivals terminal, where the café and play area used to be before the covid pandemic.
