Daughter follows in designer mum’s footsteps

Vikki Freeman, the daughter of local jewellery designer Catherine Best, is following in her mum's footsteps and has just received an accolade for her work as a designer.

She has been awarded Gold in the prestigious Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council Awards in the Production Jewellery category.

Vikki’s design included a set of jewellery which was drawn using CAD (Computer Aided Design) and then 3D-printed before being cast in a variety of precious metals. The idea behind the design allows for it to be double-sided and completely customisable, as different stones can be set on each side of the pendant. While one side could be set with diamonds, the other could be set with a variety of mixed colour stones, allowing for two different looks in one design. The pieces were judged to be innovative in design and commercially viable.

Vikki Freeman, Designer and Operations Director, Catherine Best, says: "Having grown up surrounded by creativity and with such an inspirational role model like mum, it’s perhaps no surprise that I share a similar enthusiasm and drive. I am so grateful to be taking home gold for such a competitive competition and hope that it will further reflect our passion to always provide the utmost quality and unique jewellery designs.

"The set of jewellery that I designed for this competition includes a pendant, earrings and bangle. They haven’t made it into all of our shops yet, but don’t worry they will."
