Jersey commemorates Anzac Day with dawn ceremony

Tuesday 25 April 2023

Members of Jersey's Australian and New Zealand communities this morning gathered at the Cenotaph to commemorate Anzac Day.

Anzac Day ceremonies will be held throughout Australia and New Zealand and across the world today, marking the date and time when soldiers from both countries landed on Turkey’s Gallipoli Peninsula as part of a disastrous military expedition during the First World War.

This morning's dawn service was attended by the Lieutenant-Governor, His Excellency Vice Admiral Jerry Kyd CBE, the Bailiff, Sir Timothy Le Cocq, and the Chief Minister, Deputy Kristina Moore.

Connétable Simon Crowcroft and the Very Reverend Mike Keirle spoke during the service.

Wreaths were also laid by representatives from the Australian and New Zealand High Commissions on behalf of the Australian Defence Force and New Zealand Defence Force.
