Motorists traveling in the south east of the island are being warned of delays as work begins on a major project to resurface "disintegrating" parts of a St. Saviour road tomorrow.
The first stage of the project to resurface the junction of Longueville Road and Rue Saint Thomas, which will include repairs to underlying sections of road, will begin tomorrow.
That work is expected to take two weeks, with most taking place during the evening to minimise disruption to travellers.
Government officials provided the following schedule outlining anticipated delays:
Explaining the need for the works, Rob Cabot, Highway Maintenance Manager, said: "The underlying layers of Longueville Road at the junction with Rue Saint Thomas are beginning to disintegrate, so it is important that we carry out this project. We will need to remove 150mm of the road's structure, adjust the levels of manhole covers, and replace the tarmac in two layers which will take two weeks. We will then add a high friction surface to the top of the tarmac in October, once the tarmac has weathered."

He continued: "We are carrying out this stage of the works in the evenings and at the weekends to avoid disruption for school and commuter traffic. We have also waited until after the summer holidays, to minimise the impact on the nearby hotel. I appreciate that there will still be some impact on road users, and I would like to apologise for any disruption and thank islanders in advance for their patience."
Reconstruction work is also scheduled to take place on the eastern end of Rue Gros within the Rue des Pres Trading Estate from Monday 16 September to Friday 20 September.
