"Disgusting" graffiti found on pier

Monday 12 June 2017

Police are investigating after an islander spotted "disgusting" graffiti on St Brelade's Pier yesterday morning.

Local man and Absolute Adventures worker Sean Kinsella spotted the graffiti, which covers the walkway, railings and many of the surrounding rocks, at around 9:30am on Sunday.

The vandalism - done with blue and yellow spray paint - features graphic imagery and some explicit language.

One of the markings read, "#f***Rob$tone" - an apparent reference to American hip hop artist Rob Stone, who is currently the subject of a bitter social media feud with competing rappers. Another said: "Sk8 or die." It also appears that, in some instances, the yellow paint was used to cover up some of the writing.

It is unknown who painted the graffiti, but its believed to have been put there overnight between Saturday and Sunday.St Brelade Pier Graffiti

Islanders have since denounced the "unacceptable" act over Facebook, after Mr Kinsella posted the photos on a popular community page.

One man commented: "Some people would say they are expressing thier frustrations because they have nothing to do. I'd say they'll are being disrespectful... [and] need a few life lessons... [sic]"

"What a horrible thing to do !! Hope these people are found and made to clean it up and other areas too !! [sic]" another said.

One woman added: "That's disgraceful shame on those responsible. [sic]"

Others called for the perpetrator to be identified through fingerprints obtained from a can left behind at the scene (pictured directly above, top right).

The graffiti is due to be washed away this morning. Police have since been informed of the incident, and have said they are investigating. Islanders with any information relating to the crime are urged to call 612612.
