DIY for housing tenants

Monday 16 June 2014

Social housing tenants will be helping to improve their own homes as part of a major project to get all the old States owned housing up to scratch within the next decade.

Throughout this month residents are doing a recce of what work needs to be done to communal areas inside and outside their homes and ranking them from “ideal” to “unacceptable”.

Next month Andium Homes Limited – the new private housing company owned by the States which now looks after 4,500 homes – will then draw up a list of what needs to be done and will prioritise what needs doing urgently.

The company will do things like clearing gutters and repairing paving but it will be up to residents to clean up and tidy outside their homes.

La Collette high-rise has just been fully refurbished and last week work started to improve 32 homes in De Quetteville Court high-rise.

The company is also working on refurbishing 20 homes at Nicolle close and 39 at Hampshire Gardens. It’s also building 21 new homes at Le Squez and 44 new homes at Lesquende.
