Dizzee Rascal joins Weekender line up

Monday 19 March 2018

Dizzee Rascal, one of the godfathers of grime, will be taking a holiday to Jersey this September to join the main stage at the Weekender festival.

He will be returning to Jersey nearly 10 years after its gig at the now defunct Jersey Live, and will hit the stage on Saturday, the same day as soulful Rag'n'Bone man. RnB pop singer, Rita Ora, is the only act announced so far for the Sunday.

Considered as one of the 'godfathers of grime,' Rascal moved from Drum and Bass MC in East London through the worlds of garage and hip hop to become a Mercury Award winning artist, with his debut album, 'Boy in da Corner,' was released in 2002.

Over the years, Rascal has picked up several awards including Best Male Artist at the Brits and a NME Award for Innovation.

In the last decade only, Rascal has worked with the best in the musical industry, across a variety of genres, including Snoop Dogg, DJ Fresh, Shakira, Robbie Williams and Calvin Harris. He also set up his own record label, Dirtee Stank, and toured with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and The Prodigy.

Last year, he released his sixth studio album, Raskit.

Organisers have promised he will get the crowd jumping: "It's been almost ten years since Jersey last got the opportunity to go Bonkers and with more acts to announce over the coming weeks, it's time to 'Fix Up, Look Sharp' and get your Weekender ticket now."

This year's festival will be the Weekender's second edition. The new festival was set up by former Jersey Live organiser Warren Le Sueur, after it was announced in January 2017 that the much-loved island music event would be coming to an end after 13 years.
