Former Emeraude managing director Gordon Forrest will stand for Deputy of St Helier No 1 in the forthcoming by-election.
Mr Forrest (58) is the first to put his name forward for the seat vacated by Trevor Pitman's removal from the States after being declared bankrupt. Mr Forrest said: “If elected, I look forward to bringing my experience gained in business and in dealing with people of all walks of life to help meet the challenges ahead in St Helier and Islandwide.”
He has worked in the Transport and Tourism sector for the last 34 years, including a spell as Managing Director of the French shipping company, Emeraude Lines.
More recently, he has been working as a Business Consultant based on the New North Quay, specialising in shipping, logistics and general business and is the current chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Transport and Tourism Committee.
The father-of-four says if successful he plans to focus on parish issues in the district, policies to grow the economy to create more jobs and reduce unemployment and issues relating to retailing, parking and development in Town.
He also plans to monitor States expenditure so that taxpayer’s money is spent in the right areas, promote Tourism and ensure transport links to and from the Island are robust and affordable.
