Dress up and Dash for Durrell!

Saturday 28 October 2017

The Durrell Dash is celebrating its 10th anniversary! The annual fun run is returning tomorrow in support of the work of Durrell, both in Jersey and around the world.

To celebrate this special anniversary, Durrell and the sponsor of the event, Rathbone Investment Management International, are encouraging participants to get in the Halloween spirit by donning their spookiest fancy dress for the run.

The race begins and ends in the grounds of Jersey Zoo with a 6k and a 13k course. The warm-up for the 13k Dash will start at 08:15 with the departure being given at 08:30. The shorter course will start 30 minutes later. Runners on the 6k route must be 13 years or over, while the 13km course is only open to runners over 16.

The top three runners in each Dash will receive an award, as well as the best dressed runners. All those taking part will get to take home a specially designed t-shirt. The entry fee is £15 for adults and £10 for juniors (under 16). The registration closes at 12:00 today, no registrations will be available on the day.

Once again, the Dash is sponsored by Rathbones. Commenting on the event, Phil Bain, Deputy Managing Director of Rathbones said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Durrell on this anniversary year for the Durrell Dash. It’s always been a fantastic and fun event and we are delighted to be able to support a local charity that does such important work both here in Jersey and all over the world.”

Alex Shears, Head of Communications and Fundraising at Durrell said: “We are aiming to make this the most successful year of the Durrell Dash, we are currently at 400 entrants but our aim is to get 500 signed up. It costs £150,000 a year just to feed the animals alone at Jersey Zoo so events like this are so important for Durrell.”

“We are incredibly grateful to Rathbones for their continued support and we'd also like to thank Jersey Triathlon Club who have assisted in marking and measuring the routes.”
