Drones used in search for missing sausage dog Stanley

Monday 24 September 2018

After a large-scale search involving the Fire Service, Police and dozens of islanders, drones have now been called in to find a much-loved missing Dachshund.

Stanley the "sausage dog" disappeared without a trace on Saturday morning as he was walking on cliff paths at Devil's Hole.

It is believed that little Stanley, who is brother to fellow sausage Millie, may have gone over the cliff edge where he might have rolled into headland.

However, efforts to locate him over the weekend have so far been unsuccessful.

On Saturday, firefighters went down the cliff to try and find the pup shortly after he went missing.

A Facebook post urging islanders to keep an eye out for the golden pooch was shared 660 times with many islanders sending messages of support to Stanley's owners.

The fire crew came back on Sunday and there were plans to send out a rib at sea to help with the search, but weather conditions prevented it.

Nonetheless, the weather didn't dissuade a large group from going out looking around Devil's Hole as early as 07:00.

Despite a plea from his owners, Hope Perry and Lisa McLaughlin, who said "Stan, on our way up please try and make a little noise for us, Millie will be with us", Stanley didn't emerge.

In a post shared on Facebook groups 'Jersey Ask! Advise! Advertise' and 'Jersey Dog Forum', islander Nadia Veloso explained that the area where Stanley fell is not a sheer drop and that he could have therefore fallen in headland.

Some believe that the tiny dog might either be caught in bramble or in a rabbit hole, as Dachshunds are apparently known to hunt rabbits.

In the latest update this morning, Hope told Express that "Fire Services and some lovely people from the public are sending their drones up this morning."

Ms Perry told Express that Stanley is "an adorable, loving and somewhat dopey boy. She added: "We want to really thank everyone with the search, we are so grateful! It's helped us through it and big thanks to the emergency service."

Lisa Titch Godinho also asked people walking in the area to "keep their eyes peeled" and for sheds and outbuildings to be checked again in case the pup found shelter there.
