The Police's newly-formed Drugs Squad has arrested a 49-year-old man on suspicion of drugs and money laundering offences, and seized £10,000 in cash and £2,000 of cannabis following a raid yesterday morning.
It comes after officers executed four warrants at various addresses around the island.
The warrants are part of on-going intelligence work within the Drug Squad. It was re-introduced in January, with a dedicated team of eight officers focusing on drug-related investigations.
Officers along with springer spaniel Jack, the force’s drug detection dog, seized approximately £10,000 in cash, and approximately £2,000 worth of cannabis from one address.
A 49-year-old man was arrested for possession with intent to supply and money laundering offences.
"Executing warrants to seize drugs and catch offenders is our overall objective, and a lot of hard work and preparation is required to get us to this point," Detective Sergeant Jim McGranahan, who heads up the Drug Squad, said yesterday.
"The results from today show a job well done, meaning there are now less illegal drugs on the island’s streets."
The force said that further enquiries are to be made following the execution of those four warrants with more warrants to be potentially executed soon.
