The second season of The Durrells finally has a premiere date. The first of the six episodes of ITV's award-winning drama, based on the trilogy of Gerald Durrell's memoirs, is set to air on 23 April at 20:00.
A third season has also just been confirmed by the show writer, Simon Nye. Filming is set to start soon with new exotic animals.
Last year, The Durrells attracted an average of 6,9 million viewers, with a peak audience of 8.2million viewers, making it ITV's highest rating new drama series in 2016.
The second season will see little Gerry (Milo Parker), Larry (Josh O’Connor), Leslie (Callum Woodhouse) and Margo (Daisy Waterston) navigating new challenges with their mother Louisa (Keeley Hawes) under the Corfu sun. They will have trouble making ends meet while pursuing their own aspirations and will try and start growing food to sell at the market.
Because good things come in threes, it was announced yesterday that the first season of The Durrells has been nominated for a Bafta. The series is up against The Crown, Happy Valley and War and Peace for the Drama Series Award. Winners will be announced during the ceremony hosted by Sue Perkins on 14 May.
