Cat dies in St. Aubin flat fire

Tuesday 15 December 2020

A cat died after inhaling smoke from a fire in a flat in St. Aubin last night.

Three fire engines rushed to a property on Market Hill just after 03:00, where a fire had broken out in the middle flat.

All residents had already evacuated and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly brought the fire under control.

However, a cat belonging to a retired couple living in the top flat died and their other cat is being treated at the vets.

The parish of St. Brelade is trying to find temporary accommodation for the couple, and a single person in their 50s who was also affected.

Police and the Ambulance Service were also at the scene and while paramedics provided assessments and first aid, nobody was taken to hospital.
