Shakespeare’s Juliet once asked, “What’s in a name?” Quite a lot, apparently. The founder of easyJet is taking a Jersey-based company, and its owner, to court for just that reason.
Entrepreneur and easyGroup mogul Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou claims that his band of brands are the only ones allowed to use the ‘easy’ prefix in their names.
According to Sir Stelios, any other use is “unauthorised” - and he’s refusing to be easygoing about it.
He has taken a lawsuit against Yannick Pons and his company W3 Limited, which is based in Britannia Place, Jersey, in a bid to stop him using the ‘easy’ brand without permission on website EasyRoommate.

But Mr Pons contends that the Sir Stelios only obtained a trademark for the word ‘easy’ in the year 2000 - already one year after the flat-share friend finder was launched. Sir Stelios' trademark bank is already impressive - there are around 1,000.
The pair will appear at the High Court in London this month to finally set out their cases after two years of fighting outside the courtroom.
