Eliza Reine: My favourite piece of artwork this year...

Sunday 27 December 2020

If 2020 has taught us anything, it's that little is more powerful than friendship and working together.

Latvia-born, Jersey-based artist Eliza Reine is well-known in Jersey for her creation of mixed media collages that skilfully combine photographic images with vibrantly coloured and carefully detailed paintwork, often exploring femininity and the female form.

When asked about her favourite piece of artwork she has created this year, Eliza admitted that the question was not an easy one.

She explained: "It seems like such a difficult question as it’s almost impossible to differentiate the one artwork I most enjoyed creating. I always aim to work in a state of mind that is free from obligation to create so they all come 'from a happy place' in one way or another."

Coming to a decision, Eliza added: "This question really made me reflect on the year that is soon to be over and going through the images I found this one.

"It is a collaborative artwork as the original image of Tania Pita is taken by the very talented photographer Danny Evans, they both happen to be dear friends of mine so it was particularly interesting to experiment."

She added: "More than ever this year has proven the importance of collaboration and working together, so I felt this image represents it in a way."
