One driver took a wrong turn on the way into the Town Church yard yesterday lunchtime – and ended up halfway up the steps into the Norwich Union building next door.
A witness said that the driver had been trying to turn into the churchyard to park, but had misjudged the angle and hit the gate. When she reversed her grey Renault Clio back out, she hit another car – and then rebounded straight back up the steps into the building.
“It’s lucky no-one else was walking by, someone could have been hurt,” said the witness.
Police, fire and ambulance were all called and traffic through Library Place was brought to a standstill at around 1 pm.
