Expert speakers fly in for domestic violence conference

Thursday 10 November 2016

Two experts will be flying in today for a special conference to help prevent domestic violence and abuse against women and girls.

The Director of Evidence for the Office of the Children’s Commissioner for England, Professor Leon Feinstein, and the Deputy CEO of SafeLives, Suzanne Jacob, OBE are guest speakers at the "1001 Reasons to Listen" conference.

With the support of the Council of Ministers, Home Affairs Minister Kristina Moore has prioritised the 1001Critical Days initiative that has led on work to tackle domestic violence and violence against women and girls. The ‘1001 Reasons to Listen’ conference will be the first in a series of conferences and seminars aimed at promoting awareness of, and identifying effective ways of working within, these areas.

Deputy Moore said: “Early intervention helps enormously in the protection of babies, children and families from the long-term effects of domestic violence. Giving children a strong start in life and helping them to avoid negative childhood experiences is at the heart of my Department’s approach, and this conference reflects that commitment. We are privileged to have a line-up of highly experienced, expert speakers, and I am confident that the day will be of real benefit to those who attend.”
