Fall death: no-one else involved, say police

Tuesday 12 August 2014

Police say that they don’t believe anyone else was involved in last week’s tragic death of a man who fell 30 feet on to the pavement on Commercial Buildings.

Although initial reports suggested that the man – 30-year-old Gavin Le Cornu – was being chased just before he fell from the wall, investigators say that “key witnesses” say that didn’t happen.

Flowers and cards have been left at the scene by friends and family of Mr Le Cornu – one touching message described him as “a very special guy who will always be in our hearts”.

Police are still looking to speak to one more potential witness – a man in his mid 60s, who was in the area around the old La Folie Inn at around 6.30 pm on Thursday evening.

In a statement, police said: “Officers have continued to work throughout the weekend to establish the circumstances surrounding Gavin Le Cornu’s death last week.

“Over the course of the weekend officers have spoken to further key witnesses who all negate an initial account which alleged that Gavin was being chased.

“All other witnesses have seen Gavin alone, which at this time suggests no third party involvement in his death.”

The man that police would like to speak to is described as being tanned, in his mid 60s, with short stubble, light brown eyes, short dark brown hair which is greying and wearing a blue crew neck t-shirt.

Police have urged the man – and anyone else who was in the area at the time and who has not spoken to them – to call them on 612200.
