Free help for broken families

Friday 16 January 2015

It’s the time for new year’s resolutions but statistically January is when couples find it hardest to resolve their differences.

More families split up at the start of the year and one local law firm is keen to help them move on in an amicable way.

This month and next Hanson Renouf is offering free weekly legal sessions and will advise people whether collaborative law, mediation, arbitration or traditional court based solutions are best for them.

Hanson Renouf’s Head of Family Law, Advocate Barbara Corbett said: “The high demand for the sessions over the last couple of years, which covered separation, divorce and children matters, encouraged us to extend the service to those who may require our assistance this year. We emphasise that divorce is not the only option, but if it is necessary, it does not always mean heading to Court – we always encourage the use of collaborative law where possible.”

The half-hour sessions are by appointment only each Thursday evening from 5.30 pm until 7 pm at their offices at 12 Hill Street.

You can book a session by telephoning Jamie-Lee on 767764 or by emailing jamie-lee.morgan@hansonrenouf.com. Anyone who makes an appointment is asked to make a £5 donation to the firm's chosen charity, Brighter Futures that was set up to help families.
