Ferry passenger charged after 10kg drugs haul

A Liverpool resident has appeared in the Magistrate's Court after Customs Officers seized nearly 10kg of cannabis resin and a "commercial quantity of powder" from a car that travelled to Jersey by ferry.

Lukasz Przydanek (39) was this morning charged with the importation of cannabis, and remanded in custody until his next court appearance in June.

Customs and Immigration Officials said they made the significant drugs seizure on Friday 24 May.

In a statement, they said that they seized "approximately 9.7 kilograms of cannabis resin and a commercial quantity of powder, suspected to be MDMA (ecstasy), from a vehicle driven by a Polish national, which had arrived by ferry from Poole."

The estimated local street value of the cannabis, government officials said, is around £197,000.

The news comes following two significant hauls in recent weeks.

The first, on 1 May, involved cannabis worth up to £210,000 seized from a traveller's suitcase.

Just days later, Customs said that cannabis packages worth £240,000 have been seized from the car of a ferry passenger.
