The Parade was temporarily closed to vehicles this afternoon, after a blowtorch sparked a rooftop fire above a pharmacy.
Two fire engines and nine Green Watch firefighters were dispatched to the scene shortly after emergency calls were received from the practice manager at 13:45.
He told the Fire and Rescue Service that all fire alarms had activated, and that there was a strong smell of burning.
Emergency services arrived at the scene within minutes from Fire HQ, and rapidly ascertained that rooftop workers had accidentally set fire to timbers, smokelogging the Lloyds Pharmacy on the ground floor.

A waterjet quickly extinguished the blaze, and a ventilation fan was subsequently used to clear the smoke.
No one was injured.
During this time, the area was cordoned off and traffic was diverted from the area. The road has now been reopened.

Watch Commander Richard Ryan praised the pharmacy staff for their rapid response:
“On hearing the alarm actuation, [they] ‘Got Out, Stayed Out and Called the Fire Service Out’.”
