Firearms police unit called out for foul-mouthed yob

Saturday 27 August 2016

A woman who spat at a pregnant lady and threatened to punch her in the stomach walked free from court yesterday after serving her sentence while on remand in prison.

Tara Jayne Baker, who was formerly known as Lee John Baker, was given two six-month sentences after admitting two counts of assault and one count of breaching the peace.

The Royal Court heard Baker, 44, threatened a couple as they returned to the Havelock guest house, Havre Des Pas, in the early hours of December 23, 2015.

Crown Advocate Rebecca Morley-Kirk said Baker was smoking on a balcony of the guest house when the couple returned from visiting friends at 02:15.

Mrs Morley-Kirk said: “The defendant flicked a cigarette at her, which did not land on her skin and then spat at her.

“The woman was stressed and told the defendant she was six months pregnant. The defendant then said ‘I will kick you in the stomach and kill you both.’

“The defendant then told the couple she worked for Jersey intelligence services.”

The police were called and when Baker claimed she was armed a firearms unit was deployed, with 11 police officers required at the scene.

Around two hours later Baker, who had been shouting and slurring her words, opened her door and was arrested.

In another incident Baker assaulted a prison officer at HMP La Moye, causing scratching to her hands and ruining a pair of £250 spectacles owned by the officer.

Baker, who had spent 240 days in custody, was released from court as she had already served her sentence.
