The inaugural Jersey Sports Lottery, aimed at raising funds for local clubs, launches today with 5,000 tickets and a top prize worth £250,000.
24 local local sporting clubs and organisations have signed up to this inaugural lottery which will see 60% of the ticket prize returned to them.
Each ticket is priced £150 and £90 will be returned to the club. If all tickets are sold, the clubs could be sharing a total sum of £450,000.
The lucky winner will snag a comfortable top prize of £250,000, with a further £50,000 to be won in cash prizes. The draw will take place on 18 May next year.
Organisors say the concept of the lottery is to raise funds for local sporting clubs and organisations "...which struggle to meet the enormous costs of travel and accommodation when competing outside of the Island. Sports need funding to stay vibrant and maintain competitive standards; the ever-increasing health risks associated with sedentary lifestyles, the timing could not be more poignant."
Tickets can be purchased from Jersey Rugby Club and Jersey Pearl outlets in St Helier, St Ouen, Gorey and Jersey Airport. They can also be bought from participating sports (rugby, football, hockey, netball, cricket, athletics, pétanque, skydiving, special gymnastics, Race Club, badminton, surfing, archery, table tennis, Pony Club, riding club, Motorcycle & Light Car Club, Les Ormes Golf Club, Eastern Air Rifle Club, Jersey Gymnastics).
