Charity sea swimming challenge kicks off

Friday 30 June 2023

The annual '30 Bays in 30 Days' challenge is set to make a splash this weekend, with the opening swim taking place on Saturday at St. Brelade's Bay.

The challenge, which launched in 2016, involves swimming a minimum of 30 strokes in 30 bays across the island between during the month of July to raise money for palliative care charity Jersey Hospice and the National Trust, which looks after land from coast to countryside.

The 30 Bays in 30 Days challenge is also an opportunity for people to reconnect with the island and improve their wellbeing through the benefits of sea swimming.

This year's opening swim will take place on Saturday 1 July at 16:00 at St. Brelade’s Bay, and the closing swim will be on Sunday 30 July at 16:00 at the same location.

Islanders are encouraged to tackle the challenge in whatever way they see fit – whether that is swimming 30 times in bays close to home, or extending the challenge into August to tick off all the bays.

Donna Le Marrec, Marketing and Events Manager at the National Trust for Jersey, said: "We hope as many people as possible will take part and enjoy the 30 Bays in 30 Days challenge.

"It is a wonderful way to enjoy the summer, appreciate our wonderful coastline and to meet up with friends.”

Money raised from the challenge will go to the National Trust for Jersey, which permanently protects and cares for local land and historic buildings, and Jersey Hospice Care, which offers specialist palliative care, free of charge, to all islanders with life-limiting illnesses, irrespective of cause, age or diagnosis.
