Foodie 'Oscar' success for Genuine Jersey brands

Monday 28 August 2017

Two Genuine Jersey brands have captured the attention – and tastebuds – of judges serving up the ‘Oscars of the food world’.

Sue’s Fudge and La Manche Smokehouse wowed more than 500 of the food industry’s top tasters, who ranked them as “above and beyond delicious” in the prestigious Great Taste Awards 2017.

They secured two stars in the rankings, which saw them compete against 12,366 entries from around the world.

Sue Le Gresley’s vanilla fudge was deemed as having a “really lovely texture, pleasing butteriness and gentle vanilla.” “You can really taste the Jersey cream,” one judge observed of the sweet treat, which is made using locally-sourced ingredients including Classic Herd’s cream.

“For my fudge to bear the Great Taste stars means the world to me, especially as a small business owner. With it comes respect and recognition on a global scale, as well as increased mail orders from all around the world for the fudge!” Sue commented.

The awards were the second time La Manche Smokehouse has been recognised for its Jersey sea salted oak-smoked butter in 2015. This year, they relaunched the popular butter and added a new flavour in partnership with Jersey Sea Salt.

John Garton, Genuine Jersey Chief Executive, said that the local produce promotion group felt, “…very aligned to what the Great Taste Awards is looking to achieve.”

“Supporting small businesses based on the quality of their products is at the heart of our mission and it is fantastic to see these products recognised and celebrated. We would encourage more Jersey brands to follow suit and with our guidance hope that they too could be featured on this list in the future.”
